The Denim Whale/Priscilla Tsai

Hi, there! I'm Priscilla Tsai, the owner and potter of The Denim Whale Pottery Studio. I live Charlotte, NC, and I create and fire all my pieces in my home studio. I began working with clay by taking weekly classes in 2022. Since then I've converted our dining room into my studio and clay splatters decorate the walls. Frequent visitors to the studio include my two young kids, two bunnies, dog, and husband. 

Behind the name: When my children were babies I left my graphic design and editor job to raise them full time. Without that creative outlet, I craved to make but time was scarce as a parent of littles. One of the first things I was able to create during precious nap times was a whale stuffed animal sewn from a pair of my old jeans. The denim whale became a beloved companion to my daughter and a bit of a family mascot. The whale marked the beginning of a new creative era for me - making new things as a different kind of artist.
